This position is a supervisory position in the NREC Machine Shop. It encompasses the day to day operations of the machine shop. The areas of responsibility are manufacture & fabrication parts for robotic equipment utilizing CNC machines. Candidate must have the ability to program and operate CNC machines; ability to interact effectively and courteously with people at all levels of the organization; ability to properly perform all phases of set-up and equipment operation, including holding specified tolerances; ability to read blue prints, mechanical drawings and other job specifications; able to prioritize own workloads and handle multiple tasks simultaneously; ability to maintain accurate and detailed records; required to have reasoning and problem solving skills as well as excellent communications skills.
Five or more years' experience in a machine shop including operation of both manual and CNC machines is the minimum experience required. The position requires wide range of mobility, i.e., ability to stoop, reach, bend at waist, grasp and pick up objects, maneuver in cramped areas, perform minor repairs to equipment, remain stationary for long periods of time, move equipment and other heavy materials. May be exposed to hazardous materials, chemicals, etc. as well as exposed to noise and dust in the shop. Equipment operated has various moving parts and must be operated following all safety procedures. The preferred candidate should have six years' experience including operating CNC lathe and mill, CNC programming with Mastercam software; 3D CAD experience (e.g. Solidworks); experience with machining of exotic materials, and waterjet , laser cutting and powder coating experience.
