This position is responsible for overseeing the daily research operations of a large, dynamic, interdisciplinary robotics research laboratory. The incumbent is responsible for the managing of experimental activities and execution of research projects relating to robotics systems and components including actuation, sensing and instrumentation in conjunction with the Primary Investigator (PI) and lab members. The incumbent is responsible for the administrative management of the lab research portfolio in conjunction with the PI and other SEAS and Wyss staff.
Manage, create and administer lab systems, practices, policies, and procedures. Ensuring good lab organization for equipment, tools, work spaces and projects.
The incumbent will independently oversee and carry out the daily research operations of the lab including:
Monitor, track and guide progress of research and overseeing adherence to time frames and costs.
Advise and make recommendations to PI on lab matters (e.g., key administrative issues and resource needs).
Define requirements of research projects and ensuring adequate resources. Manage lab supply inventory, lab space, facilities and allocating/purchasing as needed.
Conduct collaborative research and initiaties and executes individual original laboratory research by performing robotics design, fabrication, assembly, testing, control and optimization techniques.
Manage workflow of projects on behalf of PI; coordinate sponsor reports and communications for a complex portfolio of research funds, plan and oversee events related to collaborative projects, assist with the writing of proposals. Report writing and preparing for laboratory visits and demonstrations.
Additionally, work with PI, research team members, Institutional Review Board (IRB) and Group Administrator to ensure all human subjects protocols are up to date and all lab personnel working on related projects have completed registration and training.
Support the writing of science portions of human subject protocols.
Responsible for the innovation, evolution of and quality control of lab equipment and engineering systems and training of lab members in its use and maintenance.
Liaise with Harvard Environmental Health & Safety (EH&S) to ensure all compliance/safety requirements and good laboratory practices are being followed.
Liaise between the School of Engineering and Applied Sciences (SEAS) and the Wyss Institute on financial and administrative matters; coordinate on behalf of PI with relevant Wyss and SEAS functional areas (accounts, procurement, travel, IT, etc) to ensure PI lab needs are met; act as conduit between SEAS and Wyss to present PI with one coherent picture of research projects and funding across SEAS and Wyss.
Manage efforts of lab assistants and undergraduate researchers working in the lab, on behalf of PI. Provide guidance to lab members on lab policies and practices. Implement training programs as needed.
This position is grant-funded for two years with the strong possibility of renewal.
