Beaver Country Day School in Chestnut Hill, MA (grades 6-12) seeks a dynamic science teacher with a focus in engineering and robotics. Primary responsibilities will include teaching several science courses (engineering and physics) as well as coaching the afternoon robotics programs. Additional responsibilities can extend outside the classroom to include advising and involvement in student life.
This position may be a full-time or part-time position, depending on the candidate(s) hired.
Teach 1-2 US classes per term--likely in physics and/or engineering
Contribute technical expertise to innovation in the broader science and school-wide curriculum
Set strategic vision for afternoon robotics & engineering program
Plan and oversee afternoon programs and related events: US robotics (fall & winter) and MS robotics (spring)
Oversee assistant coaches
Recruit and oversee adult and community volunteers
Manage studio space, safety, supplies, and ordering
Beaver puts an emphasis on project-based learning through a collaborative, inquiry-based approach, where open-ended experimentation and design play a significant role in the science classroom. In addition to industrial or educational experience in engineering and robotics, competitive candidates will demonstrate content expertise, knowledge in differentiated instruction and assessment, willingness and ability to collaborate on designing and implementing innovative pedagogical initiatives, including technology, that focus on a student-first, hands-on, experiential learning. Strong interpersonal, organizational, and management skills are essential to the role, as is a willingness to participate fully in the community beyond the classroom.
