Tenure-Track Faculty - Design and Manufacturing Engineering, Sibley School of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering
The SIBLEY SCHOOL OF MECHANICAL AND AEROSPACE ENGINEERING AT CORNELL UNIVERSITY, Ithaca, NY invites applications for a tenure track faculty position in the areas of design and manufacturing. Candidates must hold a doctorate in an appropriate field and are expected to establish an outstanding, well-funded research program, and to contribute substantially to both undergraduate and graduate instruction in the areas of design and/or manufacturing. Applicants at the level of Assistant or Associate Professor are preferred. Salary and rank will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
We seek outstanding individuals engaged in research at the frontier of design and/or manufacturing of engineered systems and products. Areas of interest include design using programmable and smart materials (e.g. stretchable electronics, mechanical metamaterials); design automation; hardware aspects of virtual/augmented/mixed reality interfaces; hardware aspects of haptics; engineered ecosystems; sustainable design; additive manufacturing of structural or functional components; manufacturing of advanced and multifunctional material systems; and hardware aspects of brain-computer interfaces. A focus on first principles approaches to engineering design should be clear in the candidate's publication record, and a plan for multidisciplinary research that leverages the breadth of opportunities in the Sibley School and at Cornell should be apparent in the candidate's research statement. Applicants should have strong depth and their research should build upon one or more of the Sibley School's disciplines, including in design & manufacturing, solid mechanics and materials, robotics, fluid dynamics and thermal systems, and dynamics and control.
