Job Description: ROBOTICS SOFTWARE ENGINEER, Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory (CSAIL), to help implement software and infrastructure as part of CSAIL's participation in the DARPA Fast Lightweight Autonomy (FLA) program. The goal of this project is to develop the necessary estimation, planning, and control algorithms to allow a quad rotor helicopter to fly at very high speed through an unknown cluttered environment using only on board sensing. The project is a collaboration between MIT and Draper Laboratories and will result in substantial advances in state-of-the-art GPS-denied navigation. Will be responsible for the software infrastructure and integration of algorithms from the different research groups participating in the FLA program; leading the overall system design as well as the implementation, testing, and maintenance of the individual system components; maintaining a balance between performing independent tasks and making suitable use of available students, ensuring overall program milestones are reached; and working with the project prime, Draper Laboratory, in testing and maintaining the health of the code-base.
Job Requirements: REQUIRED: a bachelor's degree in a related field such as computer science/computer engineering; at least four years of programming experience in C++ and MATLAB; experience with robotics software development and engineering practices; specific experience with both the ROS and LCM code bases; experience with OpenCV and PCL (Point Cloud Library); ability to work effectively and productively in a team-based environment and across all levels with faculty, students, and staff; meticulous attention to detail; and strong project management, writing, oral communication, presentation, analytical, problem solving, time management, decision-making, and organizational skills. This is a one-year appointment with possibility of extension based upon continued funding.
