Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Laboratory Researcher I for the Human Genetics Institute of New Jersey (HGINJ). This position provides automation support for liquid handling and extraction platforms as well as custom engineering solutions for unmet needs. RUCDR a multi-user Bio-Repository facility focusing on nucleic acids, their extraction, analytical methods and sample storage. This position primarily supports the Nucleic Acid Services Analysis (NASA) Lab and reports to the Laboratory Operations Manager, RUCDR. Among the key duties of this position are the following:
Manages a staff of three automation engineers, development and optimization of novel automation solutions.
Writes of automation routines by interpreting user requirements.
Installs and validates automated methods.
Conducts accurate record keeping to assure adequate trace-ability.
Documents development and validation records.
Troubleshoots written automation routines and instrumentation.
Monitors instrument performance and efficiency.
Minimum Education and Experience:
Bachelor's degree in a Science, Engineering and/or Computer Science
Requires 5 years of liquid handling and method development experience in laboratory automation with technical expertise and working knowledge in the areas of integration, robotics and conventional liquid handling systems (especially Hamilton Co. instrumentation).
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Proven abilities in understanding and application of automation engineering principles.
Must possess excellent "instant troubleshooting" skills, be able to judiciously evaluate priorities and meet ambitious deadlines.
This individual must possess superior customer service skills and ability to translate client and internal department needs into efficient robotic workflows.
Position requires independent self-starter with effective communication skills and the ability to build and maintain strong relationships with other service groups to coordinate workflows between multiple groups.
Keeps accurate project records for new and follow up processes to assure adequate documentation.
Working knowledge of Microsoft office products.
Additional Computer Science Certification or Degree.
Experience with Biomek, PerkinElmer and Qiagen liquid handlers and extractors.
Previous experience in a molecular diagnostics/regulated (e.g. CLIA, CAP, GxP, etc.) laboratory setting.
